Image

more tutoring-related promo material, this time for the boys:

tangibles

it is such a treat to have a client mail over a complimentary set of the stamps i designed for her: i've never seen transparent stamps before. the very first physical evidence of my labors. :) here's some of the art:

powerpuffed

Image
here's a bookmark-slash-business card i designed for a friend's tutoring service: i couldn't find any pictures of the powerpuff girls reading or writing or anything, so i had to draw them from scratch. it was trickier than i thought.

uLolcats: Lolcats in tagalog

Image
i am shocked, shocked no one's thought of this before. (and by no one's thought of this before i mean nothing showed up on the first page of my google search for " lolcats tagalog") click on the image for bigger ulolcats. more to follow soon.

show (off) and tell

a nice reader named kathy stumbled upon this blog while looking for educational materials for her 5th grade art class' "webquest" , which (this makes me feel so old) includes a virtual field trip to the musuem. so now this post of mine is part of her online lesson (it's down near the bottom here) , and i get a nice mention in the credits page. yay!

a wedding with a happy ending

Image
sweet revenge is when the contest holder, who had earlier declared as winner a work that plagiarized your own work , contacts you and asks you to do the rest of the illustrations. oh no no, sweet revenge is gloating about it. bwa ha ha ha

that is not going in the overhead bin

saw this web ad while checking my email. apparently, mastercard's definition of "more rewarding journeys" includes being able to afford huge-ass luggage big enough to fit an open laptop .

foulmouthed freelancing

Image
did a couple of four-letter jobs this past week. one paid out, one got cancelled, but both featured the f-bomb:

gun-toting hamster

Image
so he said he wanted: A hamster in an army helmet, firing an assault rifle. The helmet can be any type of modern infantry head protection. The beast itself must be a brutal Golden Hamster, none of those puny Russian dwarf things please. The rifle must be either an SA80 , M4 Carbine or an Avtomat Kalashnikova Forty Seven -whichever you prefer. i thought hamsters and AK-47's just seem to naturally go together, and so...

IF: baby

Image
did this for an infant wear company. the client asked for like fifty revisions :)

biggest drawing in the world

Image
how do you make the biggest drawing in the world? this guy used DHL to fly a GPS device along a path that traced an image around the globe. some may question the loops and squiggles (would transport planes fly like that?), but it's one hell of a grand idea. via laughing squid

this brings back memories

Image
college/high school reunion season is upon us, and this post from the totally excellent advertising is good for you triggered a reverie of lazy undergrad afternoons. in college, this guy was me: only instead of a cubicle it was a student's club room, and instead of a jacket i wore a t-shirt with holes, and instead of a really low chair i slept on the floor. i could do the same thing now but it's just isn't the same at home.

class reunion this week--and i do mean class

Image
check out these guys on the left. they're some of the sponsors for my ten-year college reunion this weekend. and that about sums up my interest in said event. yeesh. i didn't think some of these brands sponsored anything at all around these parts, much less a bunch of thirtysomethings playing drunken "bring me". i feel a deep urge to whine and bitch, about what i am not sure.

more desk madness

Image
just wanted to try if animated GIFs work on blogspot. theme-wise, this one's an evolutionary offshoot of the wallpapers i posted a while back. it's tiny because it was meant to be a forum avatar; i haven't bothered to try and locate the original. hope this works. EDIT: it doesn't work. right-click here and select "save as..."

igoogle theme!

Image
if you use igoogle, maybe you'd like to try the naruto-themed igoogle theme , the headers of which i designed for subscribemanga.com. the picture changes automagically every hour! the layout gets a little screwy sometimes though(the google search bar occasionally covers a face or something). ah well. :)

what does this look like to you?

Image
detail from a satirical map of the world, published in japan around 1911. it's supposed to depict the philippines but i can't make out exactly what it is. anyone read kanji? here's the whole map: russia'a a big lazy bear, china's a pig, and so on... but what is the philippines ? it's driving me crazy. via bibliodyssey

beaten by a brazen plagiarist! aaarg!

Image
i'm sure this happens a lot in online design contests, but it sure sucks to have it happen to me. so the contest is here . it's for a graphic to be used for wedding materials. my entry: and here's the last-minute winning entry, submitted about a week after mine. notice the tree : side-by-side: i contacted the copycat (aka eventual winner) and called her out on her plagiarism. at first she said we must have used the same reference material but i drew my tree from scratch ! she never replied after i told her that. i also asked the contest holder to have the winner redraw her damned tree.

the desk job wallpapers

Image
first i saw this in my rss and fell in love with it: and you may recall that sucky wallpaper i made a while back. and so i put two and two together and made these: 1153x865 1024x768
