mental note: friday night signings? not a good idea. everyone's out having lives. thankfully the following distinguished individuals were present to provide their company and stimulating intellectual discourse: that's me at left, then michael david and andrew villar. gio paredes and johnny danganan. note the beer bottles on the table, the contents of which contributed significantly to the quality of our conversation. topics discussed were what you would expect from a bunch of guys with two or three red horse in them, and very little of it is fit to retell on this blog. i myself did not partake in the drinking, owing to my ethanol allergy (i swell up like a bad circumcision). but i did laugh so much it made my jaw hurt. michael david in particular is an inexhaustible font of kabulastugan. chez fidelino, manix abrera, johnny and jonas diego. manix was constantly getting ribbed for being popular with the ladies, and being popular in general. i wonder if he's gotten used to th...

check out this sweet poster by ambush creator andrew villar . andrew, gio paredes and myself will be at sputnik comics on may 14, hanging out, signing stuff and basically taking up space. i'll be doing free sketches for anyone who asks. drop by if you have time!

just dropped off copies of taal volcano monster vs. evil space paru-paro and school run #1 at sputnik comics in cubao.

tony de zuniga, komiks pioneer and creator of DC comics' jonah hex (recently adapted into a big budget hollywood flick ), was featured on this week's OFW diaries on GMA-7. WATCH mr. de zuniga explain the origins of jonah hex! CRINGE as kara david calls him a 'cartoonist' and jonah hex a 'superhero', and vaguely suggests that tony created batman and superman! THRILL at cameo appearances by sputnik comics, renaissance, jonas diego, harvey tolibao, gerry alanguilan and... gerry alanguilan! (just watch the video) thanks to randy valiente for posting this on his blog!

sputnik comics is having a party on saturday and we're all invited! (as-yet-unnamed) comics artist signings, a bunch of bands including itchyworms!, pedicab and ciudad, and a for-couples geekfight quiz just in time for valentines.

the groundbreaking artist/writer team of budjette tan and kajo baldisimo, fresh off their national book awards snub and 'controversial' madrigal-gonzales award nomination for trese , will be signing books at sputnik comics this friday, starting 8pm. joining them will be skyworld 's mervin ignacio and ian sta. maria and paolo fabregas of the filipino heroes league .

it was an honor and a pleasure to be part of sputnik's autograph signing event last night/early morning at cubao x. everything was perfect, the people were great, the food was great (yes they fed us), and i got to check out the shop's varied and interesting clientele (i'd never seen so much liquor in a comics shop before!). gio paredes was there with fellow bayan knighters levy and renie , and randy valiente dropped by to check things out. josel nicolas impressed an autograph-seeker with a cute little bear's head: awwww sweet. one last photo with paolo and chez before leaving, around 130am. thanks a bunch, guys! and thanks to everyone who dropped by! it was sputnik-tacular! AND ALSO be sure to check out today's sunday inquirer , featuring the "sputnik gang": quick, before the newsstands close!
