well, well, wendy

Image
so fastfood chain wendy's recently changed its logo, and i think they did an excellent job: although i also think dr. monster's concept of a "grownup wendy" would've worked pretty well, too: just sayin'.

more bad logo designs

just so mon ilagan won't feel all alone. i guess this one's for a 'full service' dental clinic: the london 2012 olympics logo was quite controversial. also ugly. also possibly obscene: do irish fishermen drink a lot of beer? 'cause this one apparently has. impressive trajectory there, laddie! this one's a stylized rendering of the company name, "pop": and finally...

logo design fail: mon ilagan

Image
mon ilagan is mayor of cainta, rizal, which is near where i live. like many local politicians, ilagan works his personal logo into as many public works projects as he can. around christmastime last year, i noticed these hanging from the streetlights along ortigas extension: it was the first time i'd really looked at the logo. and maybe it was the combination of the nighttime setting, and those wing-like leaves at the sides, but this immediately sprang to mind:

featured on spicywebdesigners.com... sorta

Image
i work as a freelance character designer with the folks at tisme.com.au , and they were recently featured on spicywebdesigners.com . i got to answer one interview question: 7. What kind of projects do you work on for clients and how did you earn the title of “mascot illustrator”? Answered by FERDINAND, a mascot illustrator at Tisme.com.au: Basically I get called in when the client wants to project a specific personality, image or message through a character design. Mascots work in a similar fashion to any logo in that they represent the company and its ideals, but mascot designs can also give the consumer some things logos can’t; a face, a look, a human touch. We respond instinctively to eye contact and body language, and that’s the area of expertise for a mascot designer – to try to get the audience to relate to a brand on that intimate, personal level. full article here .

break the blockade '09

Image
if you read local blogs you've probably heard of the "great book blockade of 2009" (if not here's a good place to start, and there's a timeline here ). besides being outraged by the greed and temerity, etc. etc. i also have a kerascoet book that should have arrived weeks ago that i think is among the books being held by customs. so i thought i would try and do my part as a visual person, and made this: you can download the full editable file for free at my deviantart . use it for posters, signs, even merchandise, if you like. anything to help spread the message.

u-thought police

Image
you know the type. purveyors of false on-your-sleeve nationalism who make a freak show of themselves at the slightest perceived injury to "their" country's good name. they hijack conversations, spark media circuses, make a general nuisance of themselves. think desperate housewives. chip tsao. most recently, roger ebert . i tried to think of a dignified way to deal with these people without letting myself get dragged down to their level, failed, and finally decided to just drag them down to my level: paste this image in the appropriate message board, comment thread, blog, etc., wherever the Philippine Insecurity Force rears its pointy little head. you can also download the badge as a scalabe vector file here to use as you wish, commercial or otherwise.
