metro comic con 2010: pics n' stuff

Image
my haul this year includes some priceless original art from dj legaspi and mel casipit . thanks guys! i got to sit at the komikon booth (thanks to jon zamar, syeri baet and the rest of the komikon peeps!). that's gio paredes at the right and lico reloj at upper left--his fifty peso ninja was the very first indie i bought at the first komikon back in '05. in between is markus of planetmarkus.com , who was kind enough to mind our tables for us while we walked around and stuff. being a comics blogger, he was almost as knowledgeable about our stuff as we were! it was a pleasure to see entire families trooping to the con. feedback from children regarding school run 2's brutal zombie attack scene ranged from "it was cool!" to "meh, i read 4chan so nothing new" to "i got scared". the rj ledesma was there. he bought a couple of my comics and twittered about them . ZOMG! 0_0 salamat boss RJ! speaking of showbiz, a hero tv camera crew came looking ...

m3con 09 roundup

let me begin by saying this year's mangaholix convention was the coolest event i've ever been to. literally. it was freezing inside that tent. and if i was chilled despite wearing a jacket, it was a miracle those cubizone booth girls somehow escaped hypothermia: classy. anyhoo, similarly skimpy was the interest shown by the mangaholix crowd towards my comics, judging by the dismal sales. which is too bad, 'cause i really enjoyed my huge-ass table: that's the uber-talented jerome jacinto there on the left, from whom i scored a copy of the metro #2. also bought lambchild 's komikon-award-winning life as viciously impossible , nailbiter by my new-favorite creative team of fidelis tan and mary ranises, and a boy ipis shirt from mike ignacio that i am considering using as my official comics event outfit. most of these photos were taken during setup btw, which explains the emptiness. danny acuna walked by our table, and when my seatmate jofel from kami-kami comics as...

i'll be working the indie comics tables again this weekend, hawking copies of ang maskot and operasyon at m3con at the world trade center. and then-- whoof! there's yet another comics event come january, called renaissance . it's pretty much a mystery right now, though the early hype describes it as a "historical charitable event" featuring "Influential Great Pinoy Artists of yesterday, today, and tomorrow – come together in one room." maybe it's an art show? it's the "charitable event" aspect that makes me worry--the post-xmas-empty-wallets-season timing seems quite precarious.

belated october komikon '09 post

ito yung indie tiangge table nung komikon. haba, no? ang saya nitong pinakahuling komikon. bagamat sariwa pa ang alaala ni ondoy, marami paring dumalo at nagpamalas ng kanilang pagmamahal sa komiks. hitik din sa mga bigating comics release: el indio , 100 years of philippine komiks and cartoons , trese vol.3 , where bold stars go to die , elmer collected edition , 12 , underpass ... whew! parang kabute ang mga "instant classic" nitong komikon. i've never seen anything like it. doon naman sa aming sulok ng indie tiangge, marami akong nakilala at nakausap na mambabasa ng ang maskot at operasyon , at yung iba'y nagpakuha pa ng litrato. it was truly awesome meeting all you guys en gels. kwentuhan ulit tayo sa susunod. talagang namigay ako ng mga tshirt, ha? eto'ng katibayan. sensya na sa mga naubusan. shout outs also to my indie table neighbors, sina bien "as seen on front act with mike & stanley" del rosario at mga kick "kayo nanaman?" ...

"a change of work is as good as rest" --dutch proverb "and a good time was had by all." --ronald reagan thanks to everyone who bought ang maskot and operasyon , and especially those who stopped by to chat. did i mention that there were cosplayers there? samurai spawn experienced some difficulty grasping the narrative flow of operasyon 's dialogue-sparse panels. buti pa si benjo, mababaw ang kaligayahan. now now logan, let bobby read the book too.
