how to get your comics published in the philippines (based on my experience)

  1. want to make comics
  2. get introduced to the local komiks scene, in my case, komikon early 2000's
  3. find somewhere online to talk with other comics-minded people
  4. be friendly
  5. realize that komiks creators are just a bunch of ordinary dudes (it was mostly dudes back then)
  6. "if they can do this i can too"
  7. pirate stuff to read (had been doing this for years at this point actually)
  8. learn things online
  9. pirate stuff to draw with
  10. have a college roomate move to america and bequeath you their old pen tablet held together with scotch tape
  11. make the damn comic
  12. try not to care about it too much
  13. sell the damn comic
  14. be friendly
  15. get noticed by other komiks creators. if you can catch gerry alanguilan's eye that's a good sign
  16. consign your comic anywhere that will have it
  17. make more comics (?)
  18. get asked by some friendly comic shop owners if they can turn your first comic into a film
  19. never stop beating that particular horse
  20. get noticed by more people in positions of power (critics, editors, publishers, store owners etc.)
  21. be friendly
  22. get offered a publishing deal
  23. agree then chicken out because you feel insecure about your work
  24. disappear from the komiks scene
  25. ?
  26. get invited by a different comics publisher to join their contest (see #s 4, 14, 20, 21)
  27. cater to your strengths, go through or around your weaknesses, but be aware of both
  28. make more comics
  29. be friendly
